Senior Solicitor/Associate/Senior Associate, Non-Contentious Construction (0107)

At Morton Fraser MacRoberts we are a new style of law firm, independent by choice and a place where we make our own decisions and our people can have their own say. Our culture empowers all of our people to be the best they can be.

You'll get responsibility early on and the support to make great things happen. And because we understand that hard work comes from people who are empowered to be at their best more of the time, we offer an agile working environment.

We are charting our way to become the best in our field, so if you share our ambition, come chart your best course with us.

Summary of Role

As the result of the continued expansion of our client base, we are looking to welcome an additional team member to the MFMac non-contentious construction team.  The team is working on numerous matters requiring non-contentious construction expertise, including some of the highest value projects in Scotland.  The team advises a wide range of clients in the private and public sectors, on projects in the fields of health, energy, education, real estate and many others.  The team works closely with other teams within the firm, notably the contentious construction and projects teams, and provides construction support to the real estate and banking teams.  The team is also the “lead team” for some of the largest projects on which we are advising.

This role brings with it real prospects for progression to a senior (or more senior) level.

Key Tasks

  • The successful candidate will play a key role in advising clients on construction contracts, including the drafting and negotiation of SBCC/JCT Building Contracts, NEC Engineering and Construction Contracts, development agreements, professional team appointments, sub-contracts, bonds and guarantees, and collateral warranties.

Qualifications and Experience

  • We are flexible on the level of PQE and would be willing to consider candidates with anything from 2 years' experience of non-contentious construction upwards.
  • The key qualification and experience requirements are a thorough understanding of construction law and a high level of familiarity with construction contracts typically encountered in the Scottish legal market.  We would be particularly interested in candidates who have significant experience of the NEC3 / NEC4 forms of contract.
  • Qualified in Scots Law.

Person Specification

  • You have excellent communication skills, you are articulate, you communicate clearly, concisely and without any jargon.
  • You enjoy working within a team and autonomously on your own initiative.
  • You are personable and good at building and developing client relationships.
  • You are confident and you have a strong belief in yourself and your own ability.
  • You are committed to providing a good client experience and willing to put in extra time and effort when required
  • You will have excellent drafting skills with a real eye for detail, but with a strong commercial focus and an ability to differentiate between issues that are or are not of significance from a client / contractual perspective.
  • You are able to manage your own workload and to prioritise tasks, taking into account the requirements of external and internal clients.

Candidates with a disability who meet the minimum criteria for the role will be guaranteed an interview.

Here at Morton Fraser MacRoberts we believe in a positive work life balance and in an inclusive and friendly working environment.
